THE SECRET TO OUR BRIDLES IS THEIR FIT
THE SECRET TO OUR BRIDLES IS THEIR FIT
Many bridles nowadays are labelled as ‘customised’, but 2FitHorses takes it to the next level. We use top quality leather and, in addition to the sizes Cob and Full, we also offer in-between sizes. However, what makes 2FitHorses unique is that we measure the correct pressure distribution of the headpiece and noseband for each horse. That is what ‘customised’ means to 2FitHorses. Because not one horse is the same – something we already knew! Similar to not every saddle fitting every horse, a bridle is no different. Whether your horse is sensitive or not, they all have their own preference for what kind of pressure distribution they prefer.
The nosebands and headpieces of 2FitHorses are made of very high-quality leather with super soft padding that provides excellent comfort for your horse or pony. That way, it can fit properly without restricting the head’s movement in any way.
You would think that the bit is the most important part, but the fact is that, although bits do play a major role, without the correct headpiece or noseband, a horse will never achieve the proper form of self-carriage.
A headpiece is of great importance to the horse since it immediately affects the C0-C1 (occipital condyle/back of the head – atlas/first vertebrae). There is all this talk about pressure distribution, but the areas requiring pressure distribution must have sufficient room to enable said distribution. A bridle cannot, under any circumstance, cover C0 or C1 because that restricts the correct ‘arch’ and bend. That will affect the horse’s ability to use its lower neckline and lift through the withers. The horse then needs to compensate and pretend to have a connection, but establishing a real connection is impossible. We are now discussing the width of the headpiece, but we must also consider its length. For starters, the headpiece cannot stop behind the ear; it needs to run along the entire length of the ear; otherwise, it will put pressure on the ear and, as a result, cause much tension.
When we have established the width and the length, the 2FitHorses bridles have another aspect to consider: anatomy!
Let’s start by answering the question: what does ‘anatomic’ mean? When we look this up, we see an adjective meaning: ‘relating to the body’s structure’. And that is precisely the crux of the matter because every body has a different structure! A bridle is only an ‘anatomic fit’ when it is fitted to the structure of a (specific) body – in this case, the horse’s head. The anatomy of each horse is different. That is why one type of headpiece will not suffice (and we are not even referring to its size) and fit all horses. 2FitHorses developed multiple types of headpieces and nosebands in many different sizes. This allows us to make a perfectly fitted bridle, which is not only evident from the sidelines but can also be experienced while riding. A horse will feel different to the rider in each headpiece and show a different form of self-carriage. That is why we prefer to refer to biomechanics: relating to locomotion.
After reading that, it is probably no surprise that 2FitHorses browbands are formed so that they put no pressure on the masseter muscles or the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) of the horse!
SMALL DETAILS CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE
Because the browband weighs next to nothing, it does not pressure the headpiece and thus does not add to any pressure behind the ears. Our browbands stay in place and do not slide forward because they are available in various sizes. This prohibits the pressure behind the ears from becoming too much. The Swarovski gems in the bridle are very aesthetically pleasing and are available in multiple colours and colour combinations. This transforms the bridle into an ‘orthopaedic high-heeled shoe’ if you want to compare it to something ‘fashionable’. 😉
The reins are developed so that the rider experiences an elastic-like sensation in his/her elbow. This allows for a stable connection with the mouth, but not a fixed one. There is no elastic incorporated because that would result in increased mobility of the contact. To really know what makes it so unique, you will have to experience and feel the difference for yourself. 😉
Often, the riders will reflect during the process: ‘Oh, that feels good’, and when I truly get to the core of the matter by adjusting details down to the millimetres, riders often say, ‘Wow, I had no idea that this was possible!’ or ‘I always believed my horse to be average!’ That is why I start an appointment with a full assessment of the horse’s body condition. Then I know what its options and limitations are.
In addition to our unique 2Fit Design, the leather we use to produce our bridles is of the very best quality because nothing but the best will do. The padding is perhaps even more important in terms of comfort. That is why we only use the best materials for padding. The concept that an anatomic bridle only needs to be functional is proven false by our design. In terms of ‘being fashionable’, we have no restrictions whatsoever, so there are many aesthetic variations possible: brown or black leather, lacquered noseband with different coloured trimming, or a mat noseband with variously coloured ornaments, buckles in either rose-gold, gold, silver, metal, or black-coloured, different coloured stitching, etc. Anything goes!
